– My Teaching Philosophy –
I believe that music education is meant to bring a degree of inspiration and diversity to a persons education. It is an extremely important part of growth for the younger generation, and can be an outlet for creativity for everyone. I am also very interested in how different people and different brains learn. I use this interest, along with a background in psychological studies related to brass pedagogy, to provide my students personalized instruction that will most benefit their interests and abilities. As the legendary tubist Arnold Jacobs said, “The study of any art form is the study of the mind, of the individual, the creative thought”. This quote is where I pull my teaching style from. I combine the teaching of excellent musicianship with a strong fundamental basis while always making sure my students needs and interests come first. Overall, I want to teach one how to be their own teacher, as well as how to find and articulate their own creative voice. It is my goal for students to walk away from their lessons and practice feeling inspired, while simultaneously feeling ready and equipped to do the hard work it takes to express their individual musical voice.
– Areas of Study –
Private Trumpet Lessons
What my students can expect:
– A personal, detailed, and comprehensive plan for improvement based on your goals
– Extensive access to trumpet method materials, etude books, and various solos from my library. If there is something you would like to play that I do not have, we will work to get you access to that!
– A focused and driven teacher, striving to meet your needs and goals on the trumpet. I’ll work to make sure you are getting the feedback and information needed to improve, while balancing hard work with fun and engaging lessons designed to always bring joy into our music making
Sectional Coaching and Band Class Assistance
School band classes are one of the most important parts of a students musical education while growing up. It is a proven fact that the students that participate in band or fine arts excel in their other studies, and it is my intention to be a part of that development. I have extensive experience working in a variety of educational settings, including elementary music classes, first grade general education classrooms, middle school band classes, high school marching bands, advanced band classes, and college trumpet students. I will utilize my experience and knowledge of teaching music to all instrument families, and will pull from methods that extend past the standard books introduced to students at a young age. I also always make sure to keep the fun in the music we make, and will diligently work to help your students improve at their craft while recognizing the joy in what we get to do on our instruments.
Music Theory and Ear Training
While I incorporate theory and ear training into the lessons and sectionals I teach, I am also available for more specific tutoring on these skills. I have an extensive background in piano proficiency, and have gone through college level training in music theory, aural skills, and history.
